Réjean Aucoin Avocat - Barrister Inc. - Giving back to the community

Réjean Aucoin is the founder of l’Association des juristes d’expression française de la Nouvelle-Écosse (AJEFNE) and has been president of a national community radio association, “L'ARC du Canada” and vice-president of numerous national and regional organizations. Réjean Aucoin was awarded the Community service award in 2003 by the CBA, NS branch and in 2004, was appointed as a part time member to the National Parole Board.

Réjean Aucoin has given numerous conferences or sat on various panels on the subject of minority language rights.

He is the author of three children’s books, of which “The Magic Rug of Grand-Pré” won two international prizes, “Cédric à la barre du Bluenose II” and “La pêche au homard au Cap-Breton”.

The Deveau and MacKenzie Case

Réjean Aucoin is the lawyer on record for the Mackenzie case heard by the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal which forced the Nova Scotia judges to advise the unrepresented accused of his or her right to a trial in French or English. In the Doucet case, the Federal Court ordered the Federal government to amend its Regulation enacted under the Official Languages Act in order to force the RCMP officers in Amherst to offer services in French on the Transcanada highway, the same obligation they have in regions of high demand, ie the Acadians communities within the province, National Parks, airports, etc.
